Florida highway reopens after fatal crash, pileup

Orlando, FL, United States (4E) – The westbound lanes of Interstate-4 in Orlando, Florida is again open after being shut down for hours Thursday when a woman was hit by a vehicle and killed while she was trying to cross the highway, leading to a multi-vehicle pileup.

According to officials, the westbound lanes of I-4 were closed at Conroy Road for about six hours before it reopened around 8:40 a.m.

Orlando police reported the woman, who is in her 20s, crashed her 1995 Toyota Camry with a guardrail at around 3:00 a.m. The car bounced back in middle of I-4 near Kirkman Road and was struck by two different vehicles, afterwards the woman tried to cross the interstate and was fatally hit by a vehicle.

The accident caused a pileup, but nobody was seriously injured.

Police have not revealed the victim’s identity.

Meanwhile, another crash occurred as police were re-routing traffic in the area.

Police said a 20-year-old woman rammed through two barricades, almost hitting an officer, before stopping about ten feet from the victim’s body. The woman has been arrested for drunken driving and brought to jail.

Both cases are being investigated.
