Manhattan, NY, United States (4E) – A building in Manhattan, New York caved in Monday evening, leaving the units exposed to the elements as Hurricane Sandy barreled through the area.

According to authorities, firefighters responded to the report of cracks in a building in the Chelsea District of Manhattan Monday. Upon arrival, they saw that the entire façade of the four-story apartment had already collapsed.

Emergency workers showed up on the scene, along with the Red Cross. There were no reports of injuries, however debris hit a vehicle parked on the street below.

Police said that no one was home at the time of the accident.

It was reported that a group of tourists from Europe, who were staying in the short term rental apartment, had transferred to another building across the street.

Renee Lyn, who lives on the third floor across the street, said she heard the building facade disintegrate.

She told the Daily News that she heard the bricks, like popping. “I thought it was a transformer, but it was too many of them. I looked outside and there were emergency vehicles, and then I came downstairs. That was before the power went out,” she added.

The Muscle Maker Grill is on located the first floor of the building at 92 8th Ave.
