Chelsea nets come-from-behind win over Man. United
London, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – Eden Hazard scored on a game-tying penalty shot while both Daniel Sturridge and Ramires found the back of the net in the extended period as Chelsea completed a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Manchester United in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup showdown at Stamford Bridge.
Looking to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Reds two days ago at home, Chelsea needed a jolt of inspiration from the crowd late as the Blues miraculously forced the game into overtime and seized the opportunity in the extended period.
For Manchester United, the loss proved to be painful after leading three times with brilliant goals from Ryan Giggs (22nd minute), Javier Hernandez (43rd minute), and Nani (59th minute).
David Luiz (31st minute) and Gary Cahill (52nd minute) kept the Blues within striking distance but no goals was bigger than the penalty conversion scored by Eden Hazard four minutes into stoppage time.
Trailing the Reds by a goal with just a matter of ticks remaining on the clock, Ramires made a desperate drive into the box, where he received a bone-crunching tackle by Scott Wootton.
Hazard calmly slotted his penalty into the net, sending the crowd into frenzy as another epic battle between Chelsea and Manchester United would be decided in overtime.
Unfortunately for the Reds, the extended period was all Blues as Sturridge (97th minute) and Ramires (116th minute) completely turned the game around with their sensational tallies.
Giggs managed to score another goal in the 120th minute but Manchester United ran out of time to orchestrate a comeback of their own.
With the victory, Chelsea arranged a quarterfinal duel with Leeds United at Elland Road on December 12.
