St. Louis, MO, United States (4E) – A 24-year-old man allegedly responsible for a series of armed robberies and shootings in southern St. Louis, Missouri that happened over the past few weeks has been taken Thursday in custody.

According to police, Vincent Newman has been accused of stealing from at least three people in the area since October 14. He also shot all his victims.

The recent theft occurred Wednesday when Newman grabbed the purse of a 27-year-old woman in the 1600 block of South Spring.

Police said Newman fired and hit her in the face, before escaping on foot.

The victim, who is in critical condition, was immediately transported to a local hospital.

Police also believe that Newman is behind two other robberies that happened earlier this month, in the same area.

On October 16, the suspect stole a 20-year-old woman’s Samsung Galaxy tablet, a T-Mobile Sidekick cell phone and cash while she was walking along Russell. Newman shot her in the left arm and face. He has since been indicted with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action for the incident.

Two days before that incident, Newman robbed a couple on South Grand. He allegedly urged the couple to run before discharging his gun, striking the man in the left leg and right hand.

Investigators said that evidence on the gun and shell casings showed that the crimes were connected.
