Washington, DC, United States (4E) – A 34-year-old drunk driver has been arrested Thursday after his desperate move to escape from police brought him inside the gates of the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Police reported that the incident began when Michael Worley tried to flee from a crash scene on Massachusetts Avenue and Calvert Avenue in northwest D.C. around midnight.

The suspect ran and jumped the fence to the Russian Embassy on Wisconsin Avenue, which is located a few blocks from the crash scene.

The Secret Service arrived at the scene and explained to Russian Security Forces the situation. He was turned over to the U.S. authorities after 90 minutes of negotiation.

Police brought Worley to the hospital to treat injuries he suffered in the crash.

He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated and unlawful entry.
