SCI Houtzdale Inmates Donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters

HOUTZDALE – Inmates from the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale recently presented a check to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clearfield County.

Each year, the SCI-Houtzdale Activities Department, along with the Journey for

Change Organization, hosts its annual Runathon. This year, 242 inmates participated in running and walking for a total of 1,318 miles. Five of the participants accomplished the goal of running a complete marathon of 26.2 miles.

Donations collected from the Runathon were matched by the Journey for Change Organization and the Inmate General Welfare Fund. The combined donations totaled $1,200.

The Journey for Change Organization helps inmates prepare for a successful return to society by educating them about the economics, management and social skills associated with charitable work efforts.
