Taipei, Taiwan (4E) – Nokia’s Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 smartphone is affordable and targeted at consumers with tight budgets. It’s a market Nokia has reached out to in an effort to boost struggling sales. Unfortunately HTC and Samsung have decided to challenge Nokia in the affordable smartphone market.

According to website DigiTimes, “for HTC and Samsung, the launch of WP8 smartphones means additional business opportunities, since the two vendors have been focusing on Android-based models.”

HTC and Samsung are slated to release Windows Phone 8-run smartphones next month and plans to lower prices to compete with Nokia. Before HTC and Samsung decided to sell Windows Phone 8 smartphones, both companies exclusively sold Android-powered smartphones.

HTC in particular has struggled to make profit of its Android smartphone line-up. The company plans to price its Windows smartphone aggressively against the Nokia Lumia 920.

Samsung does not feel the need to price its Windows smartphones aggressively against Nokia because it has done well in selling its various Android smartphones.

“Samsung has less pressure for the release of WP8 phones thanks to strong sales of its Android models, said the sources, adding that the roll-out of WP8 smartphones is just part of Samsung’s deployment of related Windows 8 devices,” DigiTimes added.

Aside from HTC and Samsung entering the Windows 8 smartphone market, Chinese telecommunications company Huawei also targets to compete against Nokia.
