Vienna, Austria (4E Sports) – Juan Martin Del Potro bagged his third crown of the year after crushing the Cinderella run of Slovenian netter Grega Zemlja, 7-5, 6-3 in the final of the 2012 Austrian Open Sunday.
Del Potro overcame a testy challenge from Zemlja in the first set before dominating the Slovenian in the second set to book 12th career singles crown, and more importantly, move him closer to securing a spot in the ATP Tour Finals.
Meanwhile, Tomas Berdych reigned supreme in the battle between the top two seeds in the finals of Stockholm Open, downing Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
At the Kremlin Cup, Brazilian netter Thomaz Belluci blasted Andreas Seppi 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
On the women’s side, Caroline Wozniacki captured her second career singles this season after edging Samantha Stosur 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Wozniacki has slowly recaptured her old form after losing the top spot of the WTA ranking and eventually plummeting out of the top 10 due to inconsistent play.
With the win, Wozniacki keeps her hopes alive to book a spot in the WTA Tour Finals in Istanbul, Turkey.
