The Last Word

Rusty: “Still trying to limp out of the basement, but I’m getting closer. Clearfield will have an easier time on the road this week, and I’m feeling good about West Branch as far as the local squads. I so wanted to pick Penn State, but Iowa’s performance last week has me leaning towards the Hawkeyes. The Steelers are on the verge of calling it a year, but I think they will be up to the task after the Bengals fell last week to the Browns. The Giants will be too much for the ‘Skins’ and without Ray Lewis the Ravens may be still regrouping and filling the void.”

Dustin: “Must win game this week for the black and gold. A win on the road is needed extremely bad so we can get back to .500 and have a chance in the division. I also see the Ravens still being tough even without Ray Lewis.”

Chris: “On the high school front, I like the Clearfield Bison to remain undefeated. They are having a special season. The Nittany Lions’ four-game winning streak will come to an end at Iowa because Kirk Ferentz owns the Lions. The Steelers’ downward spiral continues against the Bengals. However, I have to wonder: How fair is it that the Steelers have played three of their first six games on the road in primetime?”

Jay: “Quite a battle there in Philipsburg on Friday with two 0-7 teams – taking Huntingdon though. Picking West Branch and Juniata Valley, as both teams are at home and fighting for playoff spots. PSU looks to keep rolling with a team that always beats them – not this year! Another big win for Florida in the Swamp. Steelers in “must-win” mode already. Giants should do just enough to get to RGIII. Upset special Monday Night with the Lions.”

Dave: “There’s letdown potential for the Bison after a tough game against Tyrone – and BEA is the best team left on the regular-season schedule – but I think Clearfield will take care of business in Wingate. I’d like to say the same for PSU, but they have to show me they can beat a quality opponent on the road. One loss and everyone’s off the WVU bandwagon? At home no less? I’ll bet on Geno Smith there for sure. Steelers need to find a way – might want to start by double-covering AJ Green. As for the Ravens, here’s a dirty little secret – they might be better off without the aging Lewis, whose play had slipped considerably this year. I still think the Texans will be too much, though.”
