Cupertino, CA, United States (4E) – Apple has officially announced a media event on October 23, 2012, to be held at San Jose’s California Theater. Many expect Apple to launch the much awaited and speculated 7-inch iPad Mini. The invitation sent out by Apple has the sentence “We’ve got a little more to show you” with the Apple logo posted on a colorful background.
The word “little” only adds to the rumors of a “little” version of its popular iPad tablet. Not only do the media expect a smaller iPad, it also speculates a smaller 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display and an updated version of its Mac Mini.
Out of the three products Apple is set to launch, the star of the show is the 7-inch iPad Mini which will feature a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. The Cupertino-based company wants to offer a more affordable and portable tablet. It will be pitted against other 7-inch tablets like Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7.
“While Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad continues to dominate the tablet market, an array of lower-priced 7-inch tablets from Amazon, Google and Samsung are flooding the market. Analysts expect the iPad Mini to feature a 7.85-inch touchscreen,” InvestorPlace’s Christopher Freeburn wrote in a report.
Rumors surrounding the iPad Mini started as early as August of this year. In the first few days of October the Wall Street Journal reported that the product was being assembled and manufactured.
