Obituary Notice: Elaine Finke Sayre

Elaine Finke Sayre, 92, of DuBois died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Christ the King Manor.
She was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Waterville, MN. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Bessie (Powell) Finke. She grew up in Owatonna, MN and was married to James W. Sayre in 1940. He preceded her in death in February of 2002.
While her husband’s career took them from Minnesota to Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, Iran and Thailand, she was very active in volunteer work, which included working with the Girl Scouts in Virginia, Indiana and in Tehran, Iran, where she worked with Queen Farah Deba to bring scouting to young girls.
She was active in her church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir, as well as mission work in Africa and working with her late husband in starting the Heifer Project International at the Aitkin Methodist Church in Minnesota. While living in Aitkin, she was very involved in the Riverwood Healthcare Center Auxiliary, starting the “Lights of Love” project which continues today.
She enjoyed traveling, cooking, golf, bridge and visiting her family.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Cindy Sayre of Newport, WA; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth “Libby” and Jason Gray of DuBois; Pamela and Doug Pickard, Bracey, VA; and Stephanie and Robert Gray, Swanton, MD; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Audrey Hoffert, one daughter, Kathleen Watkins and a brother, Robert Finke.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home and from 12 p.m. until the time of service Friday at the Christ the King Manor Chapel.
A funeral service will held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Chapel at Christ the King Manor with Msgr. Richard Siefer officiating. Burial will be in Aitkin Cemetery, Aitkin, MN.
