WORTH TOWNSHIP – Minor injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident at 2:12 p.m. Thursday on the Port Matilda Highway in Worth Township, according to the Philipsburg-based state police.

John R. Carfley, 71, of State College was traveling eastbound at approximately 55 miles per hour. A line of stopped cars began backing up in the roadway’s eastbound lane. However, Carfley didn’t observe them soon enough at which point he swerved off the roadway to avoid impacting one witness’ vehicle.

The Carfley vehicle impacted the guiderail on the south berm. There weren’t any vehicles impacted in the accident, state police said.

Carfley was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. He sustained minor injuries.

State police were assisted by Port Matilda Fire and Ambulance.
