Werth’s walk-off homer helps Nats tie Cards at 2-2 in NLDS

Washington, DC, United States (NewsBahn) – Jayson Werth blasted a home run over the left field wall, lifting the Washington Nationals to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in game four of the NLDS Thursday.

The Nats win forces a game five to be played Friday night.

Both teams managed just three hits, with St. Louis tying the game at 1-1 in the third with Carlos Beltran’s sacrifice fly to center that scored Pete Kozma.

Adam LaRoche gave the Nats a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run over the center field wall.

Both sides enjoyed terrific pitching, with Cards starter Kyle Loshe allowing just two hits and a run over seven frames.

Nationals starter Ross Detwiler gave up three hits and a run over six frames.

Three Nats relievers pitched a perfect frame to shut down the Cards in the latter innings, with Drew Storen picking up the win thanks to Werth.
