Seoul, South Korea (4E) – Rumors about Samsung releasing a miniature version of its popular Galaxy S3 smartphone were put to rest after Samsung mobile executive JK Shin confirmed that the rumors are certainly true. Reports of a Galaxy S3 Mini model surfaced after a website in Sweden, Norway and Denmark listed it as a product available for purchase in the upcoming weeks.
The Korea-based electronics giant is set to publicly unveil the Galaxy S3 Mini on October 1. One of the many features of the original S3 that has attracted consumers is its 4.8-inch screen. The Galaxy S3 Mini will have a 4-inch screen.
A week ago, Samsung sent out invitations for an event launching. Tech experts have speculated about the S3 Mini since last week.
Aside from the size of the screen, Samsung hasn’t revealed additional information about the S3 Mini.
“There’s a lot of demand for a 4-inch screen device in Europe. Some may call it an entry-level device, but we call it ‘mini’,” Shin said, according to CNET.
Samsung’s announcement of the Mini is a few days before Apple is expected to announce the launch of the iPad Mini. Samsung has sold over 20 million Galaxy S3 units in the first three months of its launch.
The decision to produce the Galaxy S3 Mini was made because of the growing demand for 4-inch screens on smartphones.
