DUBOIS – DuBois area drivers will encounter night-time paving this week as work continues on Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive near the DuBois Mall.
Crews will begin base paving Wednesday night. Work hours on Beaver Drive are 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and work hours on Shaffer Road are 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Paving may also take place on Thursday night into Friday morning. This is preliminary paving work in anticipation of final paving, scheduled for late this month.
For the initial paving, drivers will encounter an alternating traffic pattern enforced by flaggers along both roads. If traffic volumes are heavy, Beaver Drive may be fully closed near the Shaffer Road intersection. Should a closure of Beaver Drive take place, drivers will need to use Route 255 and Division Street.
Overall work on the project includes roadway widening on Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive, the addition of turn lanes for the Shaffer Road/Beaver Drive intersection, latex deck overlay for the Sandy Lick Creek Bridge on Shaffer Road, and signal upgrades.
PennDOT expects roadwork to be finished late this year, with signal upgrades scheduled for spring of 2013. Once PennDOT’s overall work is complete, travel in this area will be smoother, less congested and more efficient. The contractor on this $1.2 million project is Francis J. Palo Construction Co. of Clarion.
PennDOT reminds drivers that there will be travel delays along both roads and back-ups and wait times could be lengthy. Drivers should proceed with caution, remain patient during delays, and be alert for crews working along the roadway. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
