Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – The screenwriter to pen the film adaptation of the E L James’ erotic novel “Fifty Shades of Grey” has been announced.

In a release posted on the upcoming movie’s official Facebok page Monday, Universal Pictures Co-Chairman, Donna Langley and Focus Features’ Chief Executive Officer, James Schamus announced that Kelly Marcel will be writing the script.

Producer Michael De Luca said, “Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks.”

“We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley’s engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family,” producer Dana Brunetti commented.

The British writer, producer and actress Kelly Marcel is the writer behind the upcoming drama “Saving Mr. Banks” starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. Marcel also was the co-creator of “Terra Nova” and will be producing HBO’s “The Madonnas Of Echo Park.”

The “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy has sold over 32 million copies in the United States alone. Albeit countless rumors, there is no official word yet on who will play the famed Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.
