Manhattan, NY, United States (4E) – A 25-year-old Manhattan man bled to death due to a slit throat, cut off ear and slashed torso, during a fatal attack last Sunday near Union Square.
According to Police, Michael Jones, a part-time coach in the Red Bulls’ soccer youth training program, was slashed and left to bleed to death on the pavement where passers-by found him around 4:30 a.m.
Someone reported hearing a plea for help and immediately alerted a firefighter.
Medics rushed Jones to Bellevue Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The victim’s sister told police she was out with her brother until about midnight.
Police published a surveillance footage taken from a nearby business and the tape shows a man walking near the attack location.
Eyewitnesses, mostly people coming home after partying, thought that Jones’ body was part of a bloody Halloween exhibit.
The crime scene also became a tourist attraction after people started taking pictures of the blood traces, a bloody iPhone, and the severed ear under a cup.
Police are asking those with information about the case to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or texting TIP577 to CRIMES.
