Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – President Barack Obama joked about his poor debate performance against Republican challenger Mitt Romney on Sunday during a fundraiser in Los Angeles that featured several celebrities.

The president appeared on stage at a concert featuring Jon Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder and Katy Perry, where he hailed the professionalism of the singers. After praising their flawless performance each time they are on stage, Obama then said “I can’t always say the same,” in reference to his disappointing debate performance.

The joke gained sympathetic laughter and cheers from the pro-Obama crowd at the Nokia Theater. The audience paid at least $250 to get a glimpse of the president and the celebrities.

Obama was trying to put a positive spin at his loss to Romney in last week’s debate as tries to make a final push for campaign funds into the West Coast weeks before the November 6 general elections.

Obama explained that his campaign also went through some setbacks in 2008.

Obama was generally considered the loser of the first of three presidential debates against the former Massachusetts governor, who is seeking to close the gap on the president’s lead at the polls in most battleground states.

Around 6,000 people attended the fundraising concert. After the event, Obama was at a dinner at a Wolfgang Puck restaurant and spoke to 150 guests that paid $25,000 each.
