Rookies shine as Hornets topple Magic in Mexico City
Mexico City, Mexico (4E Sports) – Anthony Davis racked up 8 points and 8 boards and Austin Rivers chipped in with 10 points as the New Orleans Hornets defeated the Orlando Magic, 85-80, in their preseason game Sunday at Mexico City Arena.
The rookies played solidly in their first NBA game for the Hornets, who are gunning for a turnaround year after missing the playoffs last season.
The Hornets trailed by 15 points at the end of the first half but they slowly erased the double-digit deficit with good shooting and better defense in the third quarter.
New Orleans then showed sting on the offensive end, using a 31-14 blitz in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Rookie guard Brian Roberts scored 12 of his 17 points in the final period to spearhead the run.
E’Twaun Moore delivered 16 points and 7 dimes for the Magic, who are playing their first game since trading center Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers.
