Athens, Greece (4E) – Greek Foreign Ministry on Wednesday strongly protested after a collision between Greek and Turkish Coast Guard vessels in the Aegean Sea.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Athens said that the Turkish vessel breached international law when it entered Greek territorial waters. Moreover, it maneuvered dangerously when captain of the Greek vessel asked it to leave the territory.

The incident happened when the Greek vessel was patrolling near Farmakonissi island.

The ministry said it would lodge a complaint over the incident to Turkey, adding that such breaches harm the relations between the neighbors as it affects flow of illegal immigrants. Greece and Turkey are historical foes who have been at odds over border disputes in the Aegean Sea.
