New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – R.A. Dickey struck out 13 in 7 2/3 innings to help lead the New york Mets to a 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Dickey becomes the Mets’ first 20-game winner in 22 years.
David Wright hit a three-run home run for New York, which won its final home game of the year.
Dickey (20-6), who recorded his seventh game of 10-or-more strikeouts, became the sixth pitcher in Mets’ history to reach the 20-win plateau, and the first since Frank Viola in 1990.
A day after setting the franchise hits record, Wright homered off of Kevin Correia (11-11) for his 21st homer of the season.
Alex Presley belted two-run homer off Jon Rauch to pull the Pirates within one at 6-5, but Bobby Parnell retired the last two batters for his fifth save.
