Fort Hood, TX, United States (4E) – A soldier, in an attempt to scare a comrade out of his hiccups with a gun, accidentally shot another soldier dead and was charged with manslaughter last Tuesday.
Authorities said 22-year-old Private First Class Isaac Lawrence Young was having a hiccup attack while drinking alcohol and watching football on Sunday night with Specialist Patrick Edward Myers, 27.
To scare Young out of his hiccups, Myers who though the gun was loaded with dummy rounds, allegedly pointed a handgun at Young’s face and pulled the trigger.
Young, a motor transport operator from Missouri who has been a soldier for 16 months, was shot in the eye and died on the way to the hospital.
Myers and Young are both stationed at Fort Hood in Central Texas.
A judge set Myers bond at $1 million.
Young, who arrived at Fort Hood in October 2011, has received the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
