Stillwater, OK, United States (4E) – A 13-year-old Oklahoma student died of a self-inflicted gun shot in an alleged suicide due to bullying, last Wednesday morning at a school in Stillwater.
Police reported that eighth grader, Cade Poulos, was the sole fatality in the incident that happened at Stillwater Junior High School.
According to a Facebook memorial page created for Poulos, bullying is a suspected motive for the boy’s death.
Many students reportedly witnessed the shooting in a crowded hallway minutes before classes were to start.
The school was immediately declared on lock down with classes cancelled for the rest of the day as the students were quickly evacuated to another location for parents to pick them up or buses to take them back home.
There are approximately 750 to 760 students attending the junior high school with students in grades eight and nine, said Stillwater Superintendent Ann Caine. She added that counselors would be available for students.
Some schools in the area were under a temporary lockdown after the shooting.
Stillwater is about 70 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
