25 students hurt in Tennessee school bus accident

Nashville, TN, United States (4E) – At least 25 students, including the driver, were injured after a school bus on which they were riding in Tennessee turned turtle last Thursday afternoon.
The bus, carrying 67 passengers, went off the road when the driver overcorrected after one side of the vehicle’s wheel went off the road.
Authorities said that 18 of the victims, including an adult, were treated at the Johnson City Medical Center while 10 others were brought to either Franklin Woods Community Hospital or Holston Valley Medical Center.
The driver, who complained of chest pains, was taken by an ambulance but was well enough to go home.
A spokesperson for Johnson City Medical Center, Teresa Hicks, said there is one seriously hurt patient with a major scalp and neck injury while two patients who required surgeries are doing well. The other injuries varied from spinal aches to broken bones.
Doctors said that that all victims will recover. Twelve patients were advised to remain in the hospital overnight.
School officials said counselors will be available Friday at David Crockett High School in Jonesborough.
