Chicago, IL, United States (4E Sports) – Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker was in a Chicago hospital Thursday undergoing more tests for an irregular heartbeat.
Bench coach Chris Speier managed his second straight game in Bakers’s absence and guided the Reds to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
“He’s in doing another test. We should get results on that fairly shortly,” Speier said before Thursday’s game. “It all looks good. I think the plan is to probably wait to see what the results of that test are.”
Baker was expected to remain in the hospital through Thursday to be monitored and fly back to Cincinnati on Friday.
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty visited Baker on Thursday morning and spoke to him in the afternoon as well.
“He looked good, very good. He was in good spirits. He seemed to be feeling good,” Jocketty said.
When asked if Baker would be able to manage ,
Jocketty said Baker would “probably not” manage Friday’s series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers but Baker is expected to be at the ballpark.
“He’ll be there tomorrow,” Jocketty said.
