Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Lonnie Chisenhall ripped a walk-off single with the bases loaded to cap a two-run, ninth-inning rally and lift the Cleveland Indians to a 7-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers Sunday.
The Cleveland victory snapped Detroit’s four-game winning streak.
The Tigers led 6-5 after Miguel Cabrera’s three-run homer in the seventh, but closer Jose Valverde could not hold the lead as Detroit fell two games behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central.
Jason Kipnis led off the ninth with a double and scored one out later on a triple by Carlos Santana.
Valverde (3-3) intentionally walked the next two batters before Chisenhall hit the first pitch over the drawn-in outfield to give the Indians the win.
Esmil Rogers (2-1) worked out of a jam in the top of the ninth.
The Tigers led 3-0 early before Cleveland scored five unanswered runs.
