New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd will fight a DWI charge filed against him after allegedly being involved in a car accident that toppled a telephone post in the Hamptons last summer, his legal representative confirmed Wednesday.
Kidd, who recently signed a two-year, $3 million deal with the Knicks, is facing charges that could put him in jail for a year after his Cadillac Escalade reportedly rammed down a post and veered into the bush in Hamptons last July.
Kidd along with his attorney Edward Burke Jr. had a brief procedural appearance in Southampton Town Court on Long Island Wednesday.
The Knicks guard did not disclose the status of his case but his attorney spoke out about his client’s next plan.
“We are defending that [DWI charges],” Burke told the Long Island Press Wednesday. He is taking this very, very seriously. He wants to get this past him as quickly as possible. The legal process takes some time but he is ready for his season.”
