Obituary Notice: Guy M. DeNardo
Guy M. DeNardo, 74, of Altoona died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born Sept. 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Romeo and Lucy (Grassi) DeNardo. He was a member of the St. Therese of Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona.
Mr. DeNardo served his country in the U.S. National Guard for 10 years. He was a member of the 28th Division Band as a trumpet player.
At one time, he organized his own band and performed backup for others, including The Platters and The Spinners. He was an avid golfer and loved dogs.
Mr. DeNardo was a self-employed businessman for many years and owned and operated the Guy DeNardo Business Forms of Altoona. He previously worked for the GAF Corp., Olivetti’s Typewriter and National Cash Register.
He was a 1954 graduate of the Altoona Area High School.
Mr. DeNardo wed the former Josephine Calarese on Sept. 30, 1961 in Altoona. She preceded him in death Jan. 7, 2003.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a cousin, Sr. Jeanne DeNardo, formerly of Altoona, who was like a sister to him.
He’s survived by two daughters, Susan Portugal and her husband, Joseph and Robin Burns and her husband, Gregory, all of Philipsburg and five granddaughters, Diana Portugal and Megan, Jessie, Katie and Julia Burns.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Friday at the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
