Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Cameron Maybin made sterling catch and Carlos Quentin hit a go-ahead, seventh-inning sac fly, and the San Diego Padres edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

It was the second straight win for San Diego, which took the rubber match of this three-game series.

Quentin shattered a 3-3 deadlock with a sac fly in the seventh and the San Diego bullpen stepped up with six Padres relievers shutting down the Dodgers.

The Padres bullpen’s effort of not allowing a hit was persevered in the bottom half by Maybin, who extended above the wall and snared the potential game-tying home run from Matt Kemp.

Rookie reliever Nick Vincent (2-0) picked up the win after tossing 1 1-3 scoreless frames of relief of starter Clayton Richard, who made his shortest start of the season.

Richard gave up three runs on 10 hits over 4 2-3 innings. He had one walk, one strikeout and got eight ground-balls outs.

Chase Headley went 2-for-5 with an RBI double, while Will Venable scored a pair of runs, including the game-winner, in the victory, the 12th in 16 Padres contests.

Dodgers reliever Shawn Tolleson (1-1) took the loss after allowing Quentin’s sac fly. Tolleson struck out the side on 15 pitches in the sixth after replacing starter Aaron Harang.

Harang yielded three runs, two earned, on seven hits over a five innings.

The Dodgers, who now trail the NL West-leading Giants by 4 1-2 games, received an RBI each from Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Luis Cruz.

The Dodgers are set to clash with the Giants in a pivotal three-game set in San Francisco starting Friday night.

The Dodgers remain 1 1-2 games behind St. Louis for the second wild card.

The Padres, who split a six-game road trip, will return home to open a three-game series against the Diamondbacks also Friday at Petco Park.
