Usain Bolt could play in friendly for Manchester United
Manchester, England, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – World’s fastest man Usain Bolt may get his chance to play for Manchester United in a charity match against Real Madrid next year.
In an interview with Inside United magazine, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he is planning to invite Bolt to play against the charity match against legends of Real Madrid.
“It could be brilliant, and next year, when we play Real Madrid’s Legends again, there could be opportunities to bring him in and see how he does,” Ferguson said. “But it’s interesting he says he would like to play in a charity game.”
After winning three gold medals in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100 relay events at the London Olympics, Bolt has been lobbying Ferguson to give him a chance to display his football skills with the team.
A lifelong United fan, Bolt has visited Old Trafford several times, helping several Manchester players with their running.
“He’s a bit of a character and a big United fan,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson said became more interested with Bolt after his amazing display of speed at the London Olympics.
“I must thank him because that was my biggest bet,” he said. “Bolt was 4/5 to win each of them, the 100m and 200m, a week before the tournament started. It was a brilliant bet. I couldn’t believe it.”
“He’s the fastest man in the world and the others would have to have taken half a second off their running to beat him. He is phenomenal,” he added.
