Obituary Notice: Jean Stone

Jean Stone, 83, of Houtzdale died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at the Canestoga View Nursing Facility in Lancaster.

BornJune 29, 1929in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of Peter and Mary Cherifko Smotzer.

She was a member of the Parsonville Assembly of God Church and had been employed by the former General Cigar of Philipsburg and Sylvania of Houtzdale.

OnJune 3, 1950,she married Howard C. Stone, who preceded her in deathApril 11, 2012.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Smith and a brother, Pete Smotzer.

She’s survived by two daughters, Debra Srock and her husband, Ross of Parsonville and Denise Kline and her husband, Jay of Epharta and grandchildren, Carolyn Caldwell, Karen Peck and Valerie Hanna of Parsonville, Ajay Kline, Jessica Kline, Jeremy Kline and Tim Greenawalt, all of Epharta and 11 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy McClarren of Morgan Run and Nancy Arnold of York and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Parsonville Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Ernest Simmers officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.
