Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Following a series of Facebook open-pleas requesting Nicolas Cage to return long overdue rented DVDs, the actor has made amends Saturday.
Cage had rented out two movies (“A Star is Born” and “The King of Comedy”) from Old Bank DVD in Los Angeles last April and never returned, accumulating a total of $224.48 in late fees. A store had to do what it had to—call a delinquent borrower’s attention to return rented movies and comply with store policies, which they did via Facebook, since they could not establish direct contact with the star.
Old Bank posted on their page last week, “If anyone happens to run into Nicolas Cage wandering the neighborhood, please kindly remind him he’s had [our DVD's] for a few months.” This they accompanied with Photoshopped images of Cage in various scenes.
Shortly after the pleas, Cage called the store to apologize for the delay. As posted on Old Bank DVD’s Facebook page, ” Just got off the phone with Nic and while he was somewhat put off by the media circus surrounding the issue of his late DVD’s that were supposed to have been returned by an assistant before going on location, he seemed generally understanding of our good natured (though, slightly honey badgerish) goofing.”
“Anyway, Old Bank DVD would like to offer a sincere apology To Mr. Cage for any aspersions cast upon his character by our efforts to retrieve our movies. Nic, who is a great customer that still supports local brick and mortars like us, has kindly and quickly taken care of the matter by reimbursing us for the DVD’s and a token amount of late fees in accordance to our standard (and generous) policy,” the post went on.
It ended with the owner declaring, “As a token of our appreciation for all the fine work Mr. Cage has done in film, with any rental this weekend, our customers may also pick one Nicolas Cage movie for free – and that’s like half our store, I mean seriously, that’s one hard working actor.”
All’s well that ends well!
