Maple Leafs captain Phaneuf engaged to actress Cuthbert

Toronto, Canada (4E Sports) – Actress Elisha Cuthbert has announced her engagement to Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf.

“Happily, happily, happily, happily engaged! This has been the most amazing weekend ever,” Cuthbert said on her Twitter account Monday after Us Weekly reported that the two had an engagement party at New Glasgow Lobster Restaurant in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The New Glasgow Lobster Restaurant also confirmed on its Facebook page that Phaneuf and Cuthbert had a surprise party with 40 friends and family.

“Last night we had the privilege of hosting a surprise engagement party for Dion Phaneuf and Elisha Cuthbert,” the restaurant said.

Us Weekly reported that the female wait staff were gushing about the engagement ring, describing it as “quite impressive” and “huge”.

“Phaneuf made the reservation about a week ago but never said it was for an engagement party,” a source told Us Weekly. “They invited 40 friends and family to celebrate at the restaurant.”

The source said Elisha looked very happy and pleased. “She was showing off her ring to her family and the wait staff,” the source said.

“At one point, Dion and Elisha both got up and gave a speech and thanked everyone for being there and celebrating this exciting time with them,” the source added.

The 29-year-old Cuthbert, star of the sitcom Happy Endings, and 27-year-old Phaneuf began dating May 2008.

Cuthbert’s other TV and film credits include 24, Old School, The Girl Next Door, Love Actually and House of Wax while Phaneuf made his NHL debut in 2005.

Before Phaneuf, Cuthbert dated NHL star Sean Avery from 2005 to 2007, and Toronto Maple Leafs alternate captain Mike Komisarek from 2007 to 2008.
