Gainesville, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Florida coach Will Muschamp has ended the team’s quarterback controversy for the time being as he named Jeff Driskel as the starter Monday.

Driskel will start against Texas A&M in Florida’s SEC opener on Saturday.

“It will be Jeff’s game to play,” Muschamp said. “I told him, ‘I don’t want you looking over your shoulder, but you have to play well.’”

Muschamp said he is confident in backup Jacoby Brissett but wanted to move forward to give one quarterback the game-time reps it takes to be successful.

Brissett and Driskel are both true sophomores.

Driskel will have to play well to keep the job. He played the second half in Saturday’s harder than expected win over Bowling Green.

Driskel was 10 of 16 for 114 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the 27-14 victory.
