Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Following her win in the recent U.S. Open, tennis superstar Maria Sharapova confirmed that she and fiancé Sasha Vujacic have called off their engagement.
Slovenian basketball star Vujacic announced their split while training with his new team in Turkey. Sharapova then confirmed that their relationship has been over for months. Always a private person, she commented on the issue to the La Gazzetta Dello Sport, saying, “I was waiting for someone to actually ask me that question.”
In a translated account by the Daily Mail, Sharapova said, “It was a really nice period of time for both of us, but, you know, our career schedules just made it extremely difficult to see each other with the traveling, and especially his career move to Turkey… He wasn’t able to travel much. He wasn’t home one time during the 10 months that he was in Turkey, so that made it extremely difficult.”
Despite the breakup, the 25-year-old endorser added, “We spent really great years together… We have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. I still would love to call him a friend.”
The former couple started dating in 2010 and got engaged also that year.
