Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – The Columbus Crew extended their winning streak to four games as Emilio Renteria sneaked in a goal in stoppage time to stun the Montreal Impact, 2-1, Saturday at Crew Stadium.
Columbus, who already secured a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a 12-8-6 (42 points) record, needed a late game heroic from Renteria to keep their winning streak alive and more importantly move into a third-place tie with the Houston.
Federico Higuain was also stellar, setting up both the game-tying header by Chad Marshall and the winner by Renteria.
Meanwhile, Montreal failed to sustain an early lead following a wonderful goal by Marco Di Vaio in the 73rd minute.
With the loss, Montreal saw its playoff hopes fade further as they dropped to 12-14-3 (39 points) with only five games remaining in their schedule.
