A’s hit four homers in sweeping Tribe, hike win-streak to six
Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Four Athletic players homered, including Josh Reddick, who finished with three hits and drove in three runs, as Oakland capped a four-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians with a 12-7 rout Thursday at Progressive Field.
Coco Crisp, Cliff Pennington and Josh Donaldson also homered for the surging A’s
The Athletics, who have won six straight and 12 of 14, had eight starters providing at least one hit, including red-hot right fielder Reddick, who have nine in this series.
Reddick, who is batting .522 (12-for-23) over his last five tilts, clubbed a two-run shot in the fifth to give the A’s an 8-2 lead after Cleveland seemed to threaten in the fourth with Ezequiel Carrera scoring on a Jack Hannahan single to pull within 6-2.
In the sixth, Oakland tacked on two more runs courtesy of a Stephen Drew sac fly and an RBI single by Reddick.
Jarrod Parker (9-7) notched the win despite yielding five runs on eight hits and issuing three walks in five-plus innings.
Justin Masterson (10-12), tabbed to help Cleveland halt another skid, failed to find success against the Athletics as he was tagged with eight runs, including three homers, in four innings.
Masterson, who was able to stop the Tribe’s losing streaks of 11 and nine games this month, came in at 1-4 lifetime versus the A’s with a 6.89 ERA in nine games (5 starts).
Shin-Soo Choo knocked in three runs for the Indians, who lost their fifth straight and 14 of 15. The struggling Tribe are now 1-6 on their current 10-game homestand and 5-23 in August.
In 32 contests played dating back to July 27, Cleveland has lost 27. In that losing slide, the Indians went from 3 1-2 games out of first place in the AL Central to 17 1-2 out.
