Orlando, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Orlando Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn has filled up the key roles in his coaching staff Thursday, hiring three assistant coaches with solid coaching experience.
Vaughn, recently hired by the Orlando Magic as its new head coach, added the services of Brett Gunning, Wes Unseld Jr, James Borrego to his team.
Gunning is considered one of the best assistant coaches in college basketball after helping head coach Jay Wright to guide Villanova to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances – including three stints in the Sweet 16.
Borrego has lengthy NBA coaching experience, serving as Greg Popovic’s assistant for seven seasons. He spent the last two seasons working under New Orleans head coach Monty Williams.
Unseld Jr,, the son of NBA Great West Unseld, spent last season as an assistant for Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson. Before that, he was also a member of the Washington Wizards coaching staff for 13 seasons and helped the Wiz reach the playoffs for consecutive times.
In addition, Vaughn hired Luke Stuckey and Laron Profit as player development coaches and NBA coaching veteran Gordon Chiesa as his consultant.
The Magic is scheduled to open training camp on October 1 and begin the post-Dwight Howard era against the Denver Nuggets on November 2.
