Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Nine school children and two adults were hospitalized in south Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon after a car driven by a 100-year-old man hit them, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Preston Carter admitted to police that he lost control of his car when he backed up from a grocery store and his Cadillac jumped into a curb and plowed into a crowd waiting in front of the Main Street Elementary School at Main and 53rd streets.
The victims suffered bumps and bruises, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating if a malfunction caused the accident. Carter claimed the brakes failed.
No charges were filed against Carter. However, his daughter told police he will no longer be driving starting next month, when he turns 101.
