Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas is reportedly being called up to attend one of America’s most prestigious black universities—Spelman College in Atlanta.
Earlier this week, Spelman’s president, Beverly Daniel Tatum, has given Douglas a congratulatory note on her recent Olypmic win. This note is enclosed in a Spelman gift bag together with a school t-shirt and a Spelman song CD.
Tatum could not give the present herself, so she asked the help of someone with access to Olympic athletes like Helen Smith Price. The Twitter post including this is attached to a photo of the loot bag.
Tatum expressed her gratitude to Price via Twitter. She said, “Thanks to Helen Smith Price C’79 for making our special delivery to@gabrielledoug! That’s the Spelman sisterhood in action!”
Meanwhile, Douglas’ camp has not yet issued any comment regarding the truth of her going to Spelman. Thursday, Douglas re-tweeted Nina Dobrev’s news, “@gabrielledoug I hear you’ll be coming to Atlanta soon :) I promise to personally show you around the set if you show me your gold metal! :P”
Tatum has issued a statement to TMZ saying, “A young woman who has demonstrated the drive and discipline needed to achieve world-class excellence is likely to have what it takes to be successful at Spelman, and we would welcome her interest in the college.”
