Florida-Georgetown to tip off in Navy-Marine Corps Classic

Jacksonville, FL, United States (AHN Sports) – The Florida Gators will duke it out with the Georgetown Hoyas off the coast of Jacksonville Florida on Nov. 9, making it the third college basketball game to be played on the deck of a naval ship in this upcoming 2012-2013 season.
The U.S Navy will showcase the Navy-Marine Corps Classic, pitting in Florida and Georgetown in a unique game made to honor veterans and active members of the NAVY.
“The Navy is excited to work with the city of Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport to bring the Navy-Marine Corps Classic to the First Coast,” Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said in a statement, according to ESPN Friday.
The Florida-Georgetown showdown is the third game scheduled to be played on the deck of a naval ship, taking place right after the Marquette-Ohio State duel off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina and Syracuse-San Diego State matchup on the flight deck of the USS Midway off the coast of San Diego.
The 2011 Carrier Classic game between North Carolina and Michigan State on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson off the coast of San Diego, California was the first college basketball match to be played on a ship.
