DUBOIS – The City of DuBois’ City Council moved from mulling a sewer rate increase towards making it a reality. The sewer rates will increase $0.50 for most of city’s customers. This is a 7 percent increase when rounded to the nearest whole point. The new rate is $8.00 per thousand gallons.
“For 99% of the people it is a fifty cent increase,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.
Industry users of sewage will see an increase across all four tiers of sewage use at roughly the same rate of 7 percent. Up to 400 thousand gallons the same rate of $8.00 will apply. From there to 800 thousand gallons the rate will rise from $4.90 per thousand gallons to $5.25. Use from 801 thousand gallons to 1.2 million gallons will rise from $3.20 per thousand gallons. Anyone who uses more than that will be charged $2.35 per thousand gallons. This is up from $2.20 per thousand gallons.
This was the first reading of the ordinance that will raise the sewage rates. It was approved by the City Council of DuBois, and the next step is a second reading.
