Washington, DC, United States (AHN Sports) – Adam LaRoche belted a three-run homer and added a sac fly RBI, while Edwin Jackson tossed seven innings of three-run, three-hit ball in leading the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win over the New York Mets Wednesday night at Nationals Park.
Sean Burnett and Tyler Clippard didn’t allow a hit over the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, with the latter notching his eighth save.
Jeremy Hefner gave the Mets a solid start in allowing four runs over six frames. He struck out three batters and walked just one but took the loss.
Ike Davis, buried in a season-long slump, collected the Mets lone extra-base hit with a double and he also walked twice.
He’s still well below the Mendoza line, however, batting an awful .164.
