London, United Kingdom (4E) – Just as Queen Elizabeth is celebrating her diamond jubilee, classic punk band the Sex Pistols released a new limited-edition version of their 1977 record “God Save the Queen” Monday.
The record, which was first released as the Queen was celebrating her silver jubilee on May 27, 1977, shocked the public for its controversial title, cover, and lyrics. Suffice it to say that it was not exactly welcomed by the Royals and their supporters.
That, however, did not stop GSTQ from topping the charts at the time.
Now, 35 years and a day later, the record is re-released by Universal Records as a re-mastered 7-inch picture disc which also features the track “Did You No Wrong.”
Only 3,500 copies of the records were distributed worldwide. Each picture disc artwork features an original 1977 “God Save The Queen” sticker, according the the Pistol’s website.
