Morgantown, WV, United States (AHN Sports) – Former West Virginia football coach Bill Stewart died Monday at the age of 59.

Stewart, who took over for Rich Rodriguez before resigning last summer, was reportedly golfing when he passed.

Stewart was 28-12 in three seasons but the program failed to earn a BCS bid during his stint.

West Virginia hired Dana Holgorsen as head coach in waiting in 2010, a move that cut short a six-year contract Stewart signed in 2008.
