NY, NY, United States (AHN Sports) – Toronto Blue Jays third Brett Lawrie has been suspended four games by MLB for throwing his batting helmet that bounced off an umpire during Tuesday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
The helmet hit home umpire Bill Miller in the right hip.
Lawrie is appealing the suspension for the incident, which occurred in the ninth inning after he argued a called third strike.
Lawrie will play Wednesday vs. the New York Yankees while he waits for the appeal to be heard.
