Columbus, OH, United States (AHN Sports) – Ohio State had trouble throwing the ball last season but all indications show that they are working on it.

In their first spring game under new coach Urban Meyer, the Buckeyes came out throwing and kept it up all day, throwing 55 times combined in a 20-14 victory by the Scarlet team over the Gray team.

“We’re going to be a very balanced offense,” Meyer said. “This was very imbalanced for a reason. We’re taking one of the worst passing teams in America a year ago, and we’ve got to find out if we can do that.”

Sophomore Braxton Miller completed 24 of 31 passes for 258 yards and built an instant rapport with Michael Thomas. A freshman receiver, Thomas had 12 catches for 131 yards while Corey Brown added seven receptions for 90 yards.

“”He can pass the ball. His release is an A. Arm strength is a B, but I am very critical,” Meyer said of Miller. “His accuracy is a B or C, so he needs to get better. He had a very good spring and a very productive spring. He has a lot of talent.”

A crowd of 81,112 fans turned out for the game in Columbus and was the biggest spring game crowd in the nation. Defending national champion Alabama drew 78,526 fans to its game.
