Weekend box office marvels over ‘Avengers’

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – “The Avengers” marveled movie theatergoers at the weekend box office, breaking the record for the best opening weekend in Hollywood history.
The film from Walt Disney Marvel Studios brought in $200.3 million at North American theaters over its threeday debut. The total added to an already eye-popping amount from global theaters, collecting some $151.5 million globally this weekend.
“The Avengers” has already sold $641.8 million worth of tickets, surpassing “The Hunger Games” on the ranking of top-grossing 2012 releases worldwide.
Robert Downy Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson headline “The Avengers” A-list cast.
After enjoying two weeks at the top spot, “Think Like A Man” fell to second with $8 million.
“The Hunger Games” finished at No. 3 with with $5.7 million. To date the film has earned $380.7 million in domestic ticket sales.
The romantic drama “The Lucky One” slipped to No. 4 bringing in $5.5 million, and “The Pirates! The Band of Misfits” rounded out the top five with $5.4 million.
