Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Gossip blogger Perez Hilton has been slapped with a lawsuit after reporting that the man who designed the $500,000 ring for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had previously been found guilty of fraud.
Published late last month on Hilton’s Coco Perez offshoot site, Hilton claimed the jeweler Robert Procop, who designed the ring with Brad Pitt’s input, had been previously successfully sued for fraud by a customer. The customer supposedly discovered that the necklace he purchased from the jeweler contained only 17.62 carats instead of the agreed upon 25.5 carats after the customer had it appraised.
The Hilton report goes on to claim the customer was awarded $89,000 in the suit.
Procop says Hilton’s account is a lie.
Hilton’s report was apparently taken from a RadarOnline report, to which it linked.
The story has since been taken down.
Procop is seeking $500,000 in general damages plus special and punitive damages.
