Ravens linebacker Suggs suffers torn Achilles; could miss season
Baltimore, MD, United States (AHN Sports) – Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs could miss the rest of the 2012-2013 NFL season after sustaining a torn Achilles, multiple sources reported Thursday.
The Ravens suffered a big blow in their Super Bowl title hope after likely losing arguably their best player in their vaunted defensive lineup.
Suggs, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, reportedly injured his Achilles during a workout session in Arizona and will see foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson Tuesday to determine the extent of the damage.
The 29-year-old Suggs already received contrasting evaluations from two physicians and is hoping a visit with Anderson will reveal the injury.
“I’ve already been to see two different doctors,” Suggs told The Sun Thursday. “One says it is a partial tear. One says it is a full tear. I don’t know what the hell is going on. I’ve been in contact with the Ravens, and there will be a procedure done Tuesday to correct the problem.”
Suggs could miss the first two months of the season if the injury appears to be partial tear. However, there’s also a possibility the linebacker could be sidelined for the whole 2012-2013 NFL season if it happens to be a full tear.
We are contact with Terrell. He will see a specialist early next week, and we’ll know more at that time,” the Ravens said in a statement, according to the Baltimore Sun Thursday.
With only $2 million remaining in its salary cap, the Ravens have limited options of boosting up their defensive unit. The Ravens are also reportedly trying to trade defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who is due to receive $3.975 million in the final year of his extension contract.
